Ingredients to keep ready:

  • 1/2 cup Chana Dal
  • Water
  • 3 teaspoon Ghee –
  • Cardamom pods
  • 1 Cup Sugar / Jaggery

For Dough Preparation:

  • 1 cup Atta/Wheat flour
  • 1c up Maida/All purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 4 teaspoon Ghee
  • Water as required

Preparation Method:

Soak the chana dal for 2 hours

Add pinch of turmeric powder & Pressure cook the Chana dal for 3-4 whistles on medium flame

In a bowl, add wheat flour, add maida, add salt, add turmeric powder, add ghee

Mix everything well

Add water as and when needed and knead a soft dough

Let it rest for 20 minutess

Heat a pan with ghee, add freshly pound cardamom pods and mix it nicely

Add the cooked dal and mix well

Add sugar / jaggery and stir it well

Cook until the excess moisture evaporates from the chana dal

Turn off the flame Let the mixture cool down completely

Divide the dough into equal size dough balls

Flatten the dough balls and place the cool chana dal filling in the centre

Fold the flattened dough with the filling into a parcel

Flatten it again and roll it out in circle shape.

Roll out all the dough balls in the same way.

Heat a tawa / pan

Place the rolled out polis onto the hot tawa

Flip the poli once it is cooked on one side

Add some ghee on it and cook on both the sides till they turn golden or cooked

Serve the Puran Poli hot.
